Varsity Lady Chiefs Beat Wakefield in Season Opener!

The Lady Chiefs had a great team effort yesterday in their win over Wakefield! The girls did a great job passing the ball and keeping their head up to see the whole field. We hustled to every ground ball and had some really great defense!  Delaney Taylor, Liza Buettner and Anne Katherine Burns, were all a big part of denying Wakefield the shot. 

Wakefield was down two players, so Powhatan decided that we too would play down two players. This meant that some girls that don’t normally run midfield had to run full field to keep the right amount of players on offense and defense. The girls did a great job adjusting to this change. At the end of the first half the score was 3-1, with goals scored by Annie McIntosh, Georgie Wilkins and Tess Ashby, with an assist from Sangeeta Subedi.

At the start of the second half Wakefield came out strong, but Powhatan was able to rack up some goals earlier in the half. The Lady Chiefs did a great job of spreading out on offense and looking for the right opportunity to shoot. The offensive ride was awesome and we fought and got the ball back a number of times. Goals in the second half were scored by, Annika Hedlund – 2, Georgie Wilkins – 2, Leland Damron, Maggie Mulry, assisted by Annika Hedlund and Dulcie Kysela – 2, with one assist from Georgie Wilkins.

Every player had a hand in this win and we look forward to playing Highland on Thursday!
