BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE SCORES VICTORY AT HSLAND

The Varsity Boys Lacrosse team earned its first win of the season on Thursday by defeating Highland 9-4. The game started out slowly as Powhatan found themselves down 1-0. Jonathan Crowley evened the score at 1-1 miday through the first half. Highland added its second goal, but Zach Buettner equaled the Highland team by tying it at 2-2. Dabid Pawlak's goal put Powhatan ahead 3-2 at halftime.

The 2nd half was controlled by the Chiefs and they came out firing offensively. Josh Blake extended the lead to 4-2 with his first goal of the season. Buettner scored his second goal of the game to make it 5-2. Highland answered back to draw closer at 5-3. Blake scored his second goal of the game on a re-direct shot giving Powhatan a 6-3 advantage. Crowley and Buettner (3rd goal) added a goal each to extend the lead to 8-3 before Highland answered with one of their own. Crowley would his 3rd goal of the game for the final scoring the day and pushed the Chiefs to a 9-4 victory.

The Chiefs got excellent defense from Chris Clark, Brantley Lawson, and Nick LeHew. Also, Connor Sabine posted his first varsity win between the pipes.

Powhatan travels to LCDS on Thursday, April 15th for a 4:30 game.
